LONIX

What is Lonix?

Lonix is the Linux User Group of London, UK.

What is a Linux user group?

A Linux user group is a group of like minded people that use the Linux operating system.

LONIX

What type of members are there in Lonix?

Members come from many areas and a great deal come from companies that are situated in London that opt to use Linux solutions. This is quite useful if you are looking for work. There are also many students and other people from academic backgrounds, including lecturers who either use Linux at home or University.

Is there a fee to join?

There is no subscription fee to join, so there is also no excuse :o)

Where does Lonix meet?

Lonix usually meets in the West End of Central London, always in places served by public transport. The meetings are usually held during the first week of every month.

What do we get up to?

We usually meet at around 6.00pm. We quickly grab some drinks at Happy Hour prices and when we have all gathered at around 9.00pm we go grab a bite to eat. After eating we head back to the pubs for a few more drinks, until closing time. During the whole evening you get the great company of fellow Linux enthuisiasts. Sounds good?

Why should I join?

To make new friends, industry contacts and learn from others who are knowledgable in other fields.

I'm interested but I'd also like to get involved.

Please do! We are looking for anyone who can lend a hand and help out with anything. Jobs include organising meets, speakers, handle mailing list bulletins, buying the drinks, write ups on meetings, write articles and anything else you can think of. Do remember Lonix is what you make of it.

I am from a company that wishes to sponsor a Lonix event. What should I do?

We have had a few companies enquiring about this. If you are interested please contact Tushar Joshi for arrangements.

I use another operating system apart from Linux. Can I still join?

Yes. Lonix invites anyone to join who is interested to find out more about Linux. It is also worth noting that people who use a variety of other platforms come along since there is a great deal of overlap in topics discussed.

I am not very good with Linux and I feel intimidated to join.

Lonix members are generally very friendly and down to earth people without an elitest attitude. They will make you feel right at home, and probably buy you a drink if you are new! :-)
